Alright, guys! Time for a little update!

Thanks to remcomater28, who posted the link on the DF boards, and also thanks to all of you awesome people who reblogged and spread the words, we currently have 71 signatures!

That’s fantastic but nowhere near enough, yet.

Here’s the link again. Go, go, go!

The question of signing the petition more than once has come up. I’ll be honest with you. The petition is free and there’s no need to sign up. So technically, we do not have any means of preventing you from doing so. But we definitely do not encourage it at all. That would be cheating and we do believe that the European fanbase is strong enough without it.

What else can you do? Have you thought of making your friends sign it? Even if they’re not yet big fans of the band, they’d be happy to accompany you to their shows, right? And trust me, that will make them a fan. Once they experience the energy, there’ll be no turning back. If they need a little more convincing, just show them the new video for I Hope You Suffer. ‘nuff said! :)

Also….do you have a website dedicated to the band for fans in Europe? Maybe one in your mother tongue or a forum for local fans…just something like that? If so, would you like to be featured on here? I’d be more than willing to post a little feature about your website / forum / blog / whatever. If you’re interested, just send me an email to kathy@schwarze-segel.de. You can send me your link, website’s banner / logo and a little description. It would be awesome if you would write it both, in English and the language of your website. Make it international, guys! :)

Thank You!

Wow, you guys are absolutely awesome! Thank you to everyone who signed the petition and spread the word by reblogging, posting and sharing the link on other profiles.

Since yesterday, we’ve collected 44 signatures but I’m sure we can get a lot more. Please keep spreading the link and encouraging people to sign it.

I know that we got a release date for “Burials” that so far seems to be worldwide. But let’s not stop there. There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done so everyone here in Europe will hear about the band and what they’re up to.

Things are looking good for us regarding a tour. But even if and when we get the dates, I’m sure a lot of places will be left out again. I myself am lucky to live in a place where they’ve toured before and I can travel to see them. But from many of the comments added to your signatures, I can see that people in other countries weren’t so lucky. Let’s try to get these people heard, too.

Issues With the Link

It’s been brought to our attention that some of you have problems with getting to the petition. The image won’t show up for some, for others the link won’t work.

If that’s the case, use this link instead.

Thank you!

Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting this little blog! It was created to help get our petition out there.
"Petition?" you ask? Yes, we’ve started one because we’re fed up with being left out.
Whether you are a big fan or just someone who enjoys AFI’s music and would like to see them live, you will have noticed that you have to dig to find out what’s going on in their universe. Here in Europe, there’s close to no promotion, media coverage, or even just a word from their record label.
This, among other things, was probably one of the reasons why Crash Love pretty much failed here. After they toured here, I happened to come across people who hadn’t even known about the record, let alone a tour! Concert venues were half empty and in general, it left a bitter aftertaste in everyone’s mouth.
Back then, people blamed it on Interscope. The contract with the label was running out, Crash Love was to be the last album under their wing.
Now AFI have found a new label, Republic Records, and us European fans were all ears. According to the RR website, they have a lot of European-based bands and artists under contract, so we assumed they had us in their focus as well. Now the first single, I Hope You Suffer, has been released. And we’re once again left to stand by and watch. The US release (July 23rd) has been out there for a couple weeks. But did you know that the UK and Denmark already got it on July 19th? Neither did we, because no one even bothered to tell us. According to the listing in the iTunes store, they’re once again under Universal’s wing in Europe (Republic Records is basically Universal), but AFI aren’t even listed on their website, safe for a listing for the single on the Norwegian Universal website. That’s not a way to promote a band!
We fear that, due to a lack of promotion, many people will miss the new releases all together. So they won’t be able to buy the single / album and support the band. Then we won’t get a tour, either, because sales weren’t so great.
What we’d like to achieve with this is to collect as many signatures by European fans as we can. Then we will send this list to Republic Records to show them that AFI still has a great and strong fanbase over here.
Please, if you are a fan of the band and you live in Europe, help us by signing the petition. To do so, please click on the graphic below. It will take you to an external host (ipetitions.com) but don’t worry, it is safe and you will not have to sign up for anything. It’s completely free and takes no more than a minute of your time.
